Working Wood With A Woodworking Machinery

Woodworking machinery is a machine or a piece of equipment that is used to process wood or logs of wood. These machines generally operate on electric motors and are extensively used in working with wood. Some machines are used to chop wooden logs into smaller pieces; others are used to grind the small wood pieces into further smaller pieces. The types of machinery used to collect the woodworking dust are also a part of woodworking.

Types of woodworking machinery

The woodworking machinery is of various kinds depending upon various factors, including the purpose of machinery, the scale of operation, type of material to work upon and so on.

The first and the most popular machinery for the woodworks is the artisanal or hobby machinery – This category of woodworking machines is used in both commercial timber producers or carpenters working on a small scale of business as well as people who do woodworks out of their interest or as a part of their hobby. These machines are usually used upon hard timber that can’t be cut with handheld equipment. The machines can be categorised into two with one being big and stationary machinery type where the machinery is huge and remains stationary while the material it is working on moves in the machinery and the other category being the small handheld tools that are used over the material to work on them. Some of the handheld tools are listed below:

  • Electronic drill
  • Chain saw
  • Jigsaw
  • Biscuit joiner
  • Nail gun
  • Router
  • Band saw
  • Rotary tool
  • Handheld circular saw
  • Mitre saw etc.

The above listed are some handheld tools that are used to work on wood. These tools are cheaper in comparison to the huge stationary machinery. However, they require more human resources and at times, may not work well on hard pieces. On the other hand, while stationary machines are expensive and require more space, they can work better with hard timber and requires very little human resources in comparison to handheld tools. Some of the most commonly used stationary machines are listed below:

  • Band saw
  • Drill press
  • Double side planer
  • Jointer
  • Bench grinder
  • Pin router
  • Scroll saw
  • Table saw
  • Panel saw
  • Mortiser
  • A radial arm saw etc.

If you plan to get yourself a woodworker from either of the two categories, make sure to buy it from a known and reputed brand and not forgetting to check the related paperwork including warranty and other services.
